6.01 NOMINATING METHOD TO BE USED. All candidates for elective municipal offices shall be nominated under the provisions of Chapter 45 of the Code of Iowa. (Code of Iowa, Sec. 376.3) 6.02 CANDIDACY. An eligible elector of the City may become a candidate for an elective City office by filing with the City Clerk a valid petition requesting that the elector’s name be placed on the ballot for that office. The petition must be signed by at least ten (10) eligible electors who are residents of the City. 6.03 QUALIFICATION. The candidate or candidates who receive the highest number of votes cast for an office in the City election, irrespective of whether any candidate receives a majority of votes cast, shall be elected to that office.
